It’s World Smith-Magenis Syndrome Awareness Day, and the SMS Foundation UK are also celebrating our 25th anniversary – DOUBLE CELEBRATION!
Across the UK the SMS Foundation have been encouraging and helping to fund parties so that families can connect, share stories and celebrate life living with SMS. A number of events have been organised by members in Scotland, the Midlands, the South Coast, and Essex & Herts.
Last weekend saw our first party take place and was kindly organised by Sacha Eyre who arranged for a group of SMS parents to meet up for dinner.
Sacha says:
“The Essex & Herts SMS families got together on Saturday 11th Nov for a meal, some of us didn’t know each other & some did. I have to say it was probably one of the funniest nights we’ve had, sharing all our SMS stories and that we all got it. The lovliest part was we all brought something to the table to help each other”.
Other members have also been organising events around the country to help raise awareness of SMS and raise funds for the SMS Foundation. The Pearson family have been busy organising an awareness event at their local Tesco branch in Bognor Regis.
Diane Turner in Kent also organised a coffee morning and cake bake sale, taking place today and tomorrow, to help raise awareness.
If you have organised an event to raise awareness, please get in touch and let us know.
The SMS Foundation have also reached the pinacle of our Share My Smile fundraising campaign, with dozens of smiles having already been shared on our social media platforms and on the website itself.
The concept of the campaign is simple. Share your selfie smile on our Facebook or Twitter page and donate £1 (or whatever monetary value you want). All donations will help the SMS Foundation UK achieve our aim of supporting families living with SMS, so whether it is a ‘fiver for fangs’ a ‘tenner for no teeth’ or a ‘fifty for falsies’ please share your beautiful, cheesy, gappy, gurning smiles and make the World smile along with you!
