Conference 2021 Announcement

November 20, 2020

A Conference Like No Other

Yes, we are still planning to hold an in-person conference on 1st & 2nd May 2021, subject to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions and receiving the necessary permissions for it to go ahead. We are expecting that there will be strict protocols required for the conference to be able to go ahead.

We have met with the venue, identified how many people can be present under current separation criteria, agreed catering arrangements, and have a draft outline as to what the conference could look like.

The biggest difference this time is that the conference will be run over two days. Saturday will focus on connecting families and supporting our community. Sunday is intended to cover topics at the heart of Smith-Magenis syndrome, awareness and building futures. Entertainment is included with a Saturday night dinner and cabaret.

Our numbers are restricted to about 40% of those from previous conferences. Newly diagnosed families will be offered priority booking, followed by families who have been part of our community for a while but are yet to make it to our conference. Then we will open booking to others in phases. We will only be offering an inclusive package comprising the two catered conference days, cabaret dinner, and Saturday night bed and breakfast. Creche and Care will be available for booking. Full details will be available in our members’ newsletter coming out later in November which will include how to express interest in attending and the process for booking.

All the current information about the conference can be found on our video below.
