Social Media Usage and Policy

Social media platforms offer valuable opportunities for The SMS Foundation UK to connect with its community, share information, and provide support. However, it is essential to establish clear guidelines to ensure responsible and respectful communication while maintaining the integrity of the organisation. This policy outlines the expectations for engaging with social media platforms associated with The SMS Foundation UK.

1. Official Social Media Channels:

The SMS Foundation UK maintains official social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. These channels are managed and moderated by authorised representatives of the organisation. Information shared on these platforms is vetted for accuracy and relevance to the mission and values of The SMS Foundation UK.

2. Social Media Groups:

The SMS Foundation UK may create and manage social media groups to facilitate community engagement and support among members. However unless explicitly stated on The SMS Foundation UK website a social media group is affiliated with the organisation – it is considered not to be part of the organisation in an official capacity. Groups that are officially affiliated with the organisation are moderated by designated administrators. Participants are expected to adhere to the following guidelines when engaging in groups associated with The SMS Foundation UK:

  • Respectful Conduct: Treat fellow members with respect and courtesy, refraining from personal attacks, harassment, or discrimination of any kind.
  • Relevant Content: Share content that is relevant to the group’s focus, such as discussions, resources, and support related to health conditions and the mission of The SMS Foundation UK.
  • Privacy and Confidentiality: Protect the privacy and confidentiality of group members by refraining from sharing personal information without consent.
  • Compliance with Community Standards: Abide by Facebook’s Community Standards and Terms of Service when posting content or engaging in discussions within the group.

4. Reporting and Moderation:

Participants in Facebook and other social media groups associated with The SMS Foundation UK are encouraged to report any inappropriate behaviour, violations of the group’s guidelines, or concerns about the content shared within the group to the designated moderators or administrators, or email us at support@smith-magenis.co.uk. Moderators have the authority to remove or restrict access to individuals who violate the group’s guidelines or engage in disruptive behaviour.
