We are a small group of dads that have come together to support each other. This is due to our children and young adults living with Smith-Magenis Syndrome. We support each other in a number of ways but mainly by just chatting and relating to life experiences, so we have decided to take up the three peaks challenge, a challenge that will push us to the limit, all with very little sleep (something we are used to living with Smith-Magenis syndrome).
Smith-Magenis syndrome is a genetic disability due to a microdeletion or abnormality of chromosome 17. The major features of Smith-Magenis Syndrome (SMS) include mild to moderate intellectual disability, delayed speech and language skills, distinctive facial features, sleep disturbances, and behavioural problems. The behavioural problems can be exhibited in a variety of ways, frequent temper tantrums, meltdowns, impulsivity, anxiety, distractibility, aggression and self-injurious behaviours including self-hitting, self-biting, and skin picking. Please get behind this great team of dads who are trying to spread awareness for their children.
